Andrew Gilmartin MD

Regional Medical Director, Northeast Region

Whether it’s counseling a patient on how to lose weight or educating a patient about substance abuse, Dr. Andrew Gilmartin thrives on helping people live longer, healthier lives. “Many serious diseases – from COPD to hypertension – can be made better or even prevented by following a healthy lifestyle and keeping weight under control,” he says. “It takes a lot of coaching and discipline for patients to begin, and keep making, healthy lifestyle choices, but they see a real difference in their health when they do.”

From a young age, Dr. Gilmartin knew that he wanted to practice medicine. He was always interested in science, and particularly how the body works. His mother worked as a physician assistant, giving him the perfect opportunity to learn firsthand about medicine. When he was old enough to choose a career path, he set his sights on medical school, and then became the first doctor in his family. He chose internal medicine because of the variety. “A lot of times, doing the detective work to make the correct diagnosis is like solving a puzzle,” he says.

Patients tell him that they appreciate his detailed, easy-to-understand explanations. “An educated patient is a compliant patient,” says Dr. Gilmartin. “My goal is to help them understand their condition so that they can partner in their treatment.”

When he is not working as a partner at Changebridge, Dr. Gilmartin enjoys spending time with his family. During the summer, you can find him sailing competitively with the Hunterdon Sailing Club out of the Spruce Run Reservoir in Clinton, NJ.
